Overview
Located near Santo Domingo on Chile’s central coast, approximately 125 kilometers southwest of Santiago, Parque Tricao is much more than an aviary. This remarkable conservation project brings together restored native landscapes, wetlands, lagoons, walking trails, and carefully designed spaces dedicated to protecting and celebrating biodiversity. At its heart is South America’s largest free-flight aviary, where hundreds of birds move freely through vegetation, waterways, elevated pathways, and open viewing areas. Among its many colorful inhabitants, the charismatic tricahue Octavio—featured in our cover image—adds a memorable and playful detail to the experience. Beyond the aviary, the park invites you to slow down and explore its natural surroundings at a comfortable pace, with time for birdwatching, photography, and quiet moments outdoors. After the visit, pause for lunch at a carefully recommended restaurant or winery in the region. Lunch is not included.
The aviary may be the main attraction, but Tricao’s wetlands, native landscapes, wildlife, and thoughtfully designed trails make the experience feel complete, immersive, and genuinely different.
